Diyaluma Falls is the 2nd biggest waterfall in Sri Lanka and is the perfect spot for a full day adventure. There are multiple falls and natural pools throughout this hike in the Badulla region. It makes a great day trip from Ella and is a wonderful way to cool off in the beautiful, natural pools. But, how do you get there?
Our driver will guide you to the upper falls. He shall drive you at Makaldenya Junction on Poonagala Road, which is actually way above the Diyaluma Falls. From here you shall trek down the hill arriving at Diyaluma Upper falls after about 30 minutes. From there Diyaluma Falls is a 10-minute walk.
To get down you shall continue down the hill towards Koslanda village, optional you can visit the small, local rubber factory on your way down. The alternative route is to begin at Koslanda village and hike up to the top of Diyaluma Falls, check it out and then continue to Upper Diyaluma Falls before returning the same way you came.
The fall has a folklore attached to it. According to a legend Gods, seeing the heartbreak of a prince whose runaway romance ended in the death of his sweetheart whom he had tried to haul over the Diyaluma precipice, created this beautiful cascade to weep forever in the wilderness
